Aeronautical Abbreviations

OBJECTIVES:

  • Learn and use standard abbreviation for all VATSAF publications

GENERAL ABBREVIATIONS 

Following lists for decoding and encoding are fully conform with ICAO Document 8400 "Abbreviations and Codes".

Use these abbreviations when writing documents for VATSAF, don’t invent your own!

Many other non-ICAO abbreviations exist and are often used in documents about Aviation. When this happens, their meaning is written in full between brackets immediately behind the abbreviation. This is only done the first time they are used and not repeated later-on in the document.

If you want to use non-ICAO abbreviations, follow the same procedure!
